Tom speaks in the Houses of Parliament

Former Sixth Former and Oldham Youth Council member Tom Penketh had the opportunity to speak in the House of Commons last Friday as part of the UK Youth Parliament‘s 12th sitting. The Youth Parliament members were hosted by the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, with their time spent discussing the funding of free school meals for under 18s.
Tom said: “It was an honour to represent Oldham as a Member of Youth Parliament in the House of Commons on Friday the 17th of November.

I was able to speak on an issue that affects millions of young people across the country and thousands here in Oldham, the importance of Free School Meals.

A highlight of the day was sitting in the exact place where the Liberal Democrat MP’s, my own party, usually sit. The significance of this was not lost on me – it was a strong reminder of the path I am forging and the dreams I am chasing.

I am hopeful that one day I will return to the chamber as an elected MP. Until that day, I will continue to serve my community with dedication.”
